CALLED TO SERVE AND RETURNED WITH HONOR 2014

NEW YEARS EVE YOUTH DANCE

Gold & Green Ball (semi-formal)

5 stakes (Page, Kaibab, Kanab, Panguitch, & Escalante) were invited to this youth dance that was held at the VHS old gym. Richard Batt was the DJ. All the youth were asked to pick up a dance card when they entered the gym and have different youth sign it so everyone had an opportunity to dance with someone different. We had a great turnout, the gym was packed and the youth had a lot of fun with the dance cards. Donut holes were served as refreshments. We had a selfie photo booth set up for pictures.

STAKE PRIMARY

As the Stake Primary visited each ward, we presented a sharing time on Prophets being called in their youth by God. We encouraged them to study hard in their youth and be prepared to serve also.
In January we held a state Priesthood Preview for the boys in our stake turning 12 this year. The primary does the invitations, handouts, and refreshments. The Young Men are in charge of the program.
In March we had an activity day for the 8-12 year old girls under the junior prom decorations in Orderville, at the Valley High School. Our theme was "An attitude of gratitude." We had 4 workshops that included, gratitude journals, where the girls decorated a binder and journal pages and were encouraged to write a little each day of things they were grateful for each day. Drops of Awesome, where we talked about being happy and realizing that little things matter. They each received a small vial of wild orange (helps with mood and feeling happy). Putting on the armer of God, where we put on armer with tin foil, and a gratitude game about families.
Lunch was served and then the girls could work on their journals and make a kit of decorating things to take home.
We helped with the Scout Expo in April. Each ward had a booth where the cubs could pass off something they needed for advancement. Also we had the District Pinewood Derby run-off, awarding each winner a pocket knife.
In June, we held Cub Scout Day Camp at Clear Creek Ranch. They let our District use their facilities free of charge and it includes the canoes for the lake, gazebo, large lawn for activities, etc. Our theme was pirates and we made marshmallow muskets, treasure bags, which the boys learned leather lacing, canoeing skills, obstacles course, and fitness games. We served lunch and had a demonstration from the Sheriff Dept. using the drug dog.

STAKE YOUNG WOMEN 2014 YEAR IN REVIEW

Missionary Prep

All priests and laurels are invited to attend Missionary Prep. The Stake Leaders take turns teaching out of the Missionary Prep manual.

It is held every Sunday, both in Kanab and Glendale. It begins in January and lasts until April.

Stake Standards Night

All YW that have completed their Personal Progress and YM that have completed their Duty to God are honored on Standard's Night and presented with a gift. The YM received a tie and the YW received a picture of Christ and a temple pouch.

Stake Youth Conference

Journey

Months before the actual youth conference, all youth 12 and up were seperated in to 12 tribes, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. The youth practiced various assigned re-enactments and many had their voices pre-recorded for these re-enactments.

We began youth conference in Orderville at the Seminary building where the youth had breakfast, picked up their water bottles and backpacks.

After that, they located their tribal leaders and walked to the Orderville church carrying the flag each tribe had made at a previous tribal activity. Once there they experienced their first devotional and a re-enactment where they participated by wiping 'blood' on a mock doorpost so the destroying angel would pass over. After that, they headed up to Cedar Mountain on land that the Heaton's let us use. It began with a hike in to the property during which the youth participated in various re-enactments. The first one was the parting of the Red Sea, carrying the Ark of the Covenant and the Battle of Jericho.

Many amazing devotionals were presented, re-enactments performed, special speakers, musical numbers and the youth were even taught a Jewish wedding dance by Lindsey Wulfenstein and Alyssa Alan where much dust was kicked up and fun was had. There were some great testimony meetings and a very memorable sunrise hike. Many battles were fought

- some with swords, others with slingshots. We were fed well by Joe and Molly Houston.

The most memorable night was the final night at the Alton town park and Alton church when President Adams, representing Christ, came riding in on a donkey for the Last Supper and washed the feet of the

12 apostles (many of whom were soon-to-be missionaries) and following that everyone had the opportunity to experience the sensory activity inside the church that portrayed the life of Christ. This youth conference touched the lives of many and much was learned about the life of Christ and the Old Testament.

Mother/Daughter Retreat

Theme: Be'you'tiful

This annual Retreat is held at the Heaton Lodge in Alton. All YW in the stake are invited to attend, along with their mothers. It begins with a craft - this year Chris Maxwell demonstrated how to make t-shirt headbands, Jael Chamberlain taught anyone interested how to make duct tape roses on the end of a pencil and there was also a selfie photo both for pictures. Soup and homemade bread was served for dinner and then Bro. Brian & Sis. Shaina King spoke about worth and then Bro. King played the guitar and sang 'Glorious' by David Archuletta. Dessert was enjoyed before everyone went to bed. The following morning breakfast was served followed by a morningside presented by Sis. Betty Chamberlain. Pictures of the YW and their mothers were taken the previous night and inserted along with various temple pictures and set to the song 'Try' by Colbie Caillat. The YW sang the song 'Beautiful to Him' as a reminder of their worth and that they truly are beautiful to their Savior.

President Johnson asked us all in the Orderville 2nd Ward Conference to commit to "Stand in Holy Places." and that blessings will come to us because of our willingness to do the things that we ought to do.

On January 19th in the Kanab 4th Ward Conference Bishop Chad Szymanski said, "Technology is wonderful---but be careful---it can also be very bad. depending on what we use it for." he also challenged us to read and reread "The strength of the Youth"

In February 9th in Glendale, Bishop Roundy spoke of "traditions of our Fathers". "Good things are from God and Evil things come from Satan."

President Johnson told us that the Lord does not give up on us!

Do we pull back when we have problems or asked to do things that we are afraid of. The Lord will bless us if we let him.

We had our annual Sweethearts Ball "Sweethearts in Paradise" in Orderville at the old Valley High School Gym. A great time for all! We had several people and Wards do some dances and as always the food was great.

In March the Relief Society celebrates its Birthday! All the Wards in the Stake have fun evenings set aside for celebrations.

Also on March 29th is the 1st General Women's Meeting that will be broadcast from the Conference Center. This is for all Sisters 8 years of age and up. This is be held twice a year and replaces the Relief Society Broadcast and the Young Women's Broadcast.

On the 30th of March in the Orderville 1st Ward Bishop Marty Hepworth asked us "if we pray for the right reason?" and that "each of us is born with the light of Christ and when we do good the brighter the light becomes." He also asked us to "pray that we can do the things were supposed to do."

President Johnson asked us to "Pray to serve our fellow man." and to carefully analyze ourselves and see:

What are we doing that we shouldn't and

What are we doing that we should!

On the 4th of May was our Stake Conference held in Kanab. There were some big changes, we received a new Stake Presidency.

We wish to give a warm hug and send our Love to the newly released Presidency. It has been great to get to know them and spend time with them in our Ward Conferences.

It will also be great to get to know our new Stake Presidency.

On June 14th was the Alton Picnic. There is always a very large crowd at this event in Alton. Lots of members bring their neighbor and friends to this. The Alton Ward goes way out in getting this ready for us to have a fun time.

On July 24th was the Bi-Stake Pioneer Day activity. With a Parade and after the Parade up at the Kanab City Park was a dinner with games and activities. There was a big turnout for this.

August doings are the Kane County Fair from the 13th to the 16th.

On the 27th of September is the 2nd General Women's Broadcast.

"to be sisters implies that there is an unbreakable bond between us. Sisters take care of each other, watch out for each other, comfort each other, and are there for each other through thick and thin. The Lord has said, "I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine."

Thank you to all the women of the Church who are reaching out across age and cultural lines to bless and serve others. Young women are serving Primary Children and the elderly. Single sisters of all ages spend countless hours watching out for the needs of those around them. All of these things are evidence that, as our beloved hymn states, "The errand of angles is given to women."

I invite you to not only love each other more but love each other BETTER. May we realize just how much we need each other, and may we all love one another better, is my prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

October 4th and 5th is General Conference and we look forward to listening to our Prophet and others speak to us.

The 23rd of November was Stake Conference and Brennon Jackson was released as the 1st Councilor due to health problems that his wife is having.
