IT IS FINALLY STARTED!!

The demolition of the Kanab Stake Center started yesterday.

Below is a look at the old building.  For memories.
This part will be saved, remodeled, and used as stake offices (bottom floor) and a family history center (top floor).

This part will be torn down, along with all the west and north additions.

Some might remember the stairs that went right by this window up to the little room over the old east entrance.

And, of course, no-man's land. By crawling out through the windows, you'd be in forbidden territory. At least until somebody caugh

One of the consequences of building a new building was the loss of the gazebo between the stake center and the bank on the corner.  Built by the Kanab Stake 70s, it has served as a nice little place for gatherings, performances, and as a missionary information site for many years.

Although the old stake center will be torn down to make way for the new one, the older part will be remodeled and the exterior restored, minus the original steeple.
Stairs and an entrance will be restored to the south side and the east door will also be added, much as it was originally. The interior, however, will be different, as it will serve a different purpose. Stake offices will be below and the family history center will be on the top floor, along with a museum/information area.
The new building will have the red rock along the bottom to match the 1924 building and the steeple will have the clock faces that are in our current steeple.
